Welcome to Narrow Road Journeys

It has been nearly six months already? I guess so, wow! Nearly six months since we took delivery our new Solitude 3470bh S-Class 5th wheel on August 17th 2019.

I think behind my eyes you can see the thought… “Holy Smokes, what did we get ourselves into?”

We have taken you through the crash course of the work we put in to modify it for our comfort. And even shared the difficult moments working through issues as a result of our mistakes and those that were no fault of ours. However, we have not yet formally introduced our new home to you.

In my mind, we were waiting on two things: a more professional way of doing a video as well as an appropriate name for the Solitude of which to introduce her. Well… the video part I have decided will be a work in progress. We’ll choose what equipment and software to invest in as time goes by. For now, a simple iPhone video will have to do.

As for the name, that is a cute story I’d like to share. While traveling out of Indiana toward Tucson, Faith had the bright idea of joining the name of the truck with the Solitude. With a little help on detail, this is what she came up with. We discussed that maybe Brutus was the truck’s bachelor name, and it turned out it was. Brutus is his middle name. Bowen, or Bow for short is his given first name, and when he met the Solitude he started to go by that name more regularly. We discovered the Solitude’s name to be Arrow. That’s right, when they are driven together, they are Bowen Arrow. What a stinking creative little 6 year old she is!

Bowen Arrow or Bo and Arrow – either way, Faith is smarter than me!

So Arrow is a 40 foot long, 13.5 foot tall 5th wheel housing everything we need. She has 1.5 baths, plenty of storage, a separate bunk room for the kids, kitchen, 4 person dinette, king size bed and an outside kitchen. Click the video below for the tour. If you have any questions feel free to comment here or reach out on Facebook or Instagram. And while you are on YouTube, like the video and subscribe to our channel! We plan on posting fun videos along our journey.

We have found the loss of space to be almost a non-issue. We began this adventure knowing we would be exploring the world outside, away from a big comfortable family room. Leah is a magician when it comes to organizing, finding appropriate storage for all the necessities including kids toys. The one scenario that proves difficult in a small space is an “away place” for the kids to go during a breakdown. It is a bit stressful to have all parties absorb those breakdowns pretty much in our faces.

So far we have grown into it in our own ways, becoming more and more comfortable with this lifestyle. We certainly do not see any reason to stop this journey short! And are stoked to find out where and what God has in store for us!

Again, if you are just inquisitive regarding how do we handle….? Or what do we do for…..? Or how’s it going with….? Please reach out! Maybe you are a full timer or are considering it and have specific questions. Please reach out! You can currently do so by posting a comment here or contacting us through Facebook or Instagram. We would love to hear from you!

Cheers!

Why is it that no matter when I deal financially in the automobile industry, I can’t help but feel like I’m getting screwed over, or at least not the best deal? I don’t care what it is: buying a new car, getting something fixed, dealing with state taxes and title/registration, all of it. It always […]

Oh MY God!

Such an underwhelming phrase these days, isn’t it?  You can’t hear this without conjuring up a bubblegum teenager whining “O.M.G.” about a relatively meaningless Instagram post.  Just a simple change in where the emphasis is placed changes the whole magnitude of what was just uttered.  Go ahead, say it out loud with the emphasis on […]

We are currently spending an unexpected weeklong extension of our epic journey from Tucson, AZ to somewheresville, WA in Anacortes, WA near the San Juan Islands (Yes, that’s right into the heart of the COVID-19 virus US epicenter!). It has been the trip of a lifetime exploring the natural wonders captured in our southwest national […]
